2013 Floral & Wedding Trends with Christine Longthorp

As many New Mexico brides are gearing up to plan their weddings, the lovely and talented Christine Longthorp of Something Special with Flowers in Albuquerque, shares her insiders look on floral and wedding trends for 2013.

Something Special with Flowers
♥ The trend for weddings this year is a blend of vintage and organic. This often follows contemporary trends, after which brides become nostalgic for the weddings of their grandparents. In the floral realm we are using china cake stands and teapots for centerpieces filled with old fashioned garden roses and lesser known garden flowers.

Bridal Wedding Brooch Bouquet

♥ Some of the vintage touches we are seeing incorporated are lace dresses, doilies and brooch bouquets. Brooches can be used within the bouquets or hanging from ribbons, and of course adorning the stems or handle. ♥

♥ 2013 will have us seeing lace runners over burlap toppers with groupings of mercury glass and photo frames formed and flowers. ♥ Bird houses and ceramic love birds abound. ♥ Wooden crates juxtaposed and based with flowers and moss are another beautiful trend that mixes organic elements in a chic setting. ♥ Brides are rediscovering milk glass and Fiesta ware, scouring thrift stores and garage sales, nostalgic for times past at grandma’s house. ♥

♥ Vegetables such as stems of Brussels sprouts used in mason jars filled with lights and pussy willows. ♥

♥ Dress colors are greens, with Kelly green becoming a favorite, to charcoal and shades of ecru to white. ♥

Wedding styles are fun and as individual as the couple, making my job as the florist very creative and unique! Whatever style or trend you choose, make sure it represents you and make sure to have fun with it.
