Watercolor & Ink: Elizabeth Danae Calligraphy
Today I have the pleasure of sharing an interview and featuring the work of the extremely talented Danae Hernandez, of Elizabeth Danae Calligraphy Studio in Santa Fe. Danae's work caught my eye because of the amazing attention to detail she provides in all of her custom products. A true gem for New Mexico brides and the local wedding industry, Danae's work has been featured in both national print and online publications, including Martha Stewart Weddings.

What's the story behind Elizabeth Danae Calligraphy Studio?
I have been studying the art of calligraphy since I was 12 years old - a looong time now! Because I fell in love with it, during my teen years, I created art for pleasure and for friends. When my first child was born, I decided to turn my love of calligraphy into a home-based business. As my business grew, so did my family! Wedding calligraphy has been a wonderful, fun and fulfilling career as I raise my children.

What inspires you?
I am most inspired by other artists - I have relationships with other calligraphers, and I find that sharing a mutual love of creativity with others is very motivational. I live in beautiful Santa Fe, and also find constant inspiration in this city!

How can brides and wedding planners can use your services to add special touches to the wedding.
My calligraphy services are tailored for engaged couples to use from the beginning of their engagement, to the day of their wedding. One of my favorite projects is creating custom wedding maps! I incorporate hand illustrations with calligraphy to create a one-of-a-kind visual presentation of the wedding locale that can be used either as a Save-the-Date announcement, included in the invitation suites or given to guests in welcome baskets. As would be expected, I offer envelope and place card addressing, as well as create custom signage for the wedding day. Other unique items I offer would be my 'Quaker Marriage Certificates', and 'Guest Signing Scrolls'. Both are hand watercolored to requested text, color and illustration preferences and are designed to be signed by all your guests and then used to display in your home as lovely original artwork.

Anything else that might be helpful to know about your business as it pertains to the New Mexico bride? I absolutely love working with local brides! I understand the need to make sure everything is PERFECT for one of the most important days of her life, so my aim is to get to know her individual style, and contribute my own creative interpretation using this as my guide. The wedding day should be a beautiful memory for both the couple and their guests and it is my pleasure to contribute beauty to these memories.
